Funambol Device Management
Funambol provides mobile operators and OEMs with an end-to-end open source device management (DM) solution for billions of connected devices. Its server and client software cover the essential aspects of managing combined 4G and 3G devices. The server is built on a strong open source foundation that is productized for efficient mobile device management in an operator environment. It is optimized for 4G operational challenges in an all-IP network and is extremely cost-efficient. The Funambol DM client has been developed for WiMAX devices. It runs on the most common operating systems, is easily portable to new chipsets and includes advanced diagnostics.
Flexible DM Server for 4G and 3G Networks
The Funambol open source DM server is OMA DM 1.2 standard compliant. It is used by mobile operators and device manufacturers around the world for DM interoperability testing and benchmarking.
The server supports WiMAX additions and variations of the OMA DM standard. This includes server-initiated sessions with push over UDP, a WiMAX-specific bootstrap process and quality of service (QoS) data collection from devices, such as DRMD (device reported metrics and diagnostics).
The server has an open architecture with APIs for complete access from external applications and web interfaces. This enables Funambol to be the foundation for comprehensive DM capabilities.
Funambol is fully open source and standards-based, which provides numerous benefits, including complete flexibility, broad device coverage and low cost.
DM Client for WiMAX Devices and Smartphones
The Funambol DM client brings the OMA DM standard to WiMAX devices. It supports multiple network profiles (for roaming). The software runs on all major laptop operating systems (Windows XP/Vista/7, MacOS, Linux) to support WiMAX dongles. It supports Linux for residential gateway devices and Android for smartphones (with support for other OS in the works).
The Funambol DM client supports the standard OMA DM managed objects tree along with WiMAX extensions and diagnostics/QoS (e.g. DRMD) for enhanced network support. It fully integrates with the Funambol DM server to provide an optimal feature set and performance. Its basis on open source enables the software to be accessed by a global mobile development community, which helps provide the broadest device compatibility and ongoing innovation.
